These are not limited (what’s listed won’t be the only thing I pursue, since that will adjust as I have conversations with many of you), are subject to change, and are all prospective.

PLANS AND IDEAS
Advocacy

  • How to make Senate a space students want to come to

    • Utilize O-Week

      • Work with the EVP, college presidents, and college senators to create a plan to have all new students sign up to join the SA canvas page

      • Could also reach out to PAAs and ask them for help--the OAA would be a great resource to ensure students sign up for the canvas page

      • O-Week Coords would also be a huge help

    • Make the “Senate Agenda” a collaborative effort the entire student body works on

      • Have the slides commentable by all 

    • Make actively working on the finalized Senate Agenda a collaborative effort between all Exec team members instead of just asking them to check it over

Anti-Racism

  • Continue development of diversity course/expansion of CTIS

    • Publicize this ongoing effort

  • Set up a system where the SA President meets monthly with different cultural group leaders

    • Work with Kristen Ernst from Student Affairs to accomplish this

  • As a Black woman, connect with the Black group chats/other mediums I have access to and learn directly about issues/events/other things that I can publicize or bring awareness to

  • Talk with Wend to see if I can send scheduled emails to all undergraduates that are specifically dedicated to addressing/promoting events and discussions related to race at Rice

Adjustment 

  • How to make Bill-Writing clearer

    • In the beginning of my term, co-develop a plan with the new Parliamentarian to create a more concrete process for bill-writing

    • Have students who have previously submitted legislation co-present with the parliamentarian and co-create the informational slides

    • Discuss the idea of having any submitted legislation to have to consult with the Parliamentarian or Deputy Parliamentarian 

  • How to increase the effectiveness of standing committees

    • In the beginning of my term, co-develop a plan with the IVP and Parliamentarian to discuss possible changes to committee requirements such as including a renewal process

  • How to increase the functioning of Senate/the SA in general

    • Have a meeting with Exec team about Norms and Expectations BEFORE Changeover Senate (the one where it will be 100% new team)

      • Come to a consensus on how we will approach Senate and the SA, EARLY, so that we can work as a unit towards that shared goal: such as having Senate be more discussion based as opposed to legislation based

    • Utilize Spring Retreat to work towards common goal for the SA with ALL voting members

    • (Fall 2021) Organize an off-campus retreat for voting members to bond
